Default Hello from Ontario, Canada

Hey guys, new to the forum and new to Ford. I've been on lots of Dakota forums in the past, but since I decided to go with a new 2013 F150 XTR I figured I should join a forum and start getting ideas on customizing the new truck. So far I'm in love with this truck. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute to the site with some ideas and feedback.

Default Hey Commeeche

I picked up my Kodiak 4X4 SCREW 5.0 XLT last Friday evening. I am in a state of shock over the ride, handling, build quality and engine/drivetrain characteristics of this vehicle. I have never had a car/truck that I have liked so much, on inital impressions at least.

I have put 500Km in it. If I baby it I get 12.7/100 combined. If I don't I get 15/100 combined. It can do everything required of it with an eggshell under your accelerator foot. It goes nuts on demand, with so much power it is scary. I have had it up to 145km's/hr several time son the highway, a process designed to begin the ring sealing process on the Coyote.

It was ordered with the 302 package, at 3.73 rear end (a requisite for me), power rear window, remote start, tailgate step, some exterior plastic bits on the hood and windows and a cable lock.

I put an Extang Tonneau cover on it (love this for price/performance), a Line-X bed spray, and a polyprop carpet for the dogs to cling to.

I had it clayed and ploymer protected immeditely upon delivery, by a specialist called Autobahn in Vaughan. They also Scotchguarded the interior.

There are two things I am going to do over the next couple of months (other than install my MaxPyder floor mats).

The first is to put a Dual Solo Performance exhaust on. They are the best I have ever seen and heard, and that includes Borla. I am going over there this morning to have a chat.. http://solo-performance.com/v8-f150-...exhaust-system

Next thing I am going to do is upgrade the sound system. The XLT is a great place to do this, as it doesn't have the Sony system (the latter is problematical to mod, to say the least) Good advice is to leave the base OEM H/U with Sync and MyFord in place (advised by many). I have already started to acquire components and will blog my experience. There is lots to be gleaned from this forum but basically you will need some sort of harness adaptor like a PAC, a Line Out Controller of some kind (look at Rockford Fosgate or JL or Audison Bit Ten for starters) to manage the signal from the H/U, an amp to the door speakers, and new door speakers and tweeters. You will also need a mono amp and new sub w/ enclosure for the back.

The new sound system will cost between $1000-$2500 depending on how rich you go. I plan on around $1500 in parts alone. If you go with 2ohm speakers like Infinity Kappas from Sonic you can use the stock wiring on the door speakers, which will lower install costs. You can still swap out hte witring if you like, however... just be sure to calculate line resistance on the install if you DIY, to save your amp.

I will blog about this also over time, but for now if you are interested just do a search on this forum for audio mods that leave the OEM H/U in.

In late October I will install the winter tires on alloy rims and TPMS system I put together, all second hand. The tires, Goodyear Ultra Ice WRT's, are like new, and the 17" OEM Ford rims are mint. I got the entire tire pressure monitoring kit from a fella selling warehouse aquisitions in Brampton for $70, the $100 tires for $500, and the rims for $400. I have posted about this on this forum. You can do this too, it takes a little time and patience but really pays off.

You can see some vehicle pics on my intro message if you like, linked over to Flickr. Feel free to reach out any time.

Best,

FR

Thanks guys, I am so far in love with this truck. best truck I have ever owned and driven. been looking on the site and getting quite a few ideas, which is good and bad, because I told myself that I wouldn't customize the truck, but its a disease I can't just leave it alone. I already put a ready lift leveling kit in it and soon new tires and HID's and the list goes on and on. lol

Welcome to the site and hello from Aurora / Newmarket area. I said I wasn't going to do many mods......look at my signature now.

Anyways where in Ontario? I'd have to look at map but I'm pretty sure Ontario and Texas cover about the same amount of geography.
fringe_remnant exhaust sound is defiantly subjective and YouTube clips don't give an accurate measure of sound. I too checked out Solo, Roush, Gibson, Flowmaster, Magnaflow and vast array of others and to "my ears" Borla was the clear winner even though I could have bought Solo much cheaper locally. Once again pick one that you like you best it's what you are stuck listening too every day.

Well, you are way ahead of me Commeeche. I am leaving mine pretty much stock for the time being.... I like warranties.

Best of luck.
