Default Ford owner needs a little advice.

Hi everyone my name is mike,I purchased a 2003 heritage edition 5.4Lt nice truck. I noticed the other day a little puff of blue smoke at startup.Got me to thinking what could cause this? Also if I can get it looked after because the truck is still under warranty which I think is 7 years or 100,000 klms. Has 63000 klms on it now.If anybody has any thoughts or advice please drop me a line thanks...

A good bet is valve seals.

Agreed on the valve stem seals.

Has the truck increased its oil consumption? Piston rings may be another cause - hard to notice when you're driving if the problem is just beginning. When you let off the gas to coast, then get back on it - the puff will occur right at the time you get back on it.

Is the truck in any way hard to start? Might be a mini-flooding type of thing going on that could puff particulate (smoke) when it does light off. Usually more towards a black color though.

the internals on mod motors are pretty stout, leaky valve seals on 4.6L/5.4L motors are somewhat the norm when the mileage really stacks up. As long as you keep oil in the crankcase, it will last forever. A 40 weight motor oil can help curb the leaking.

the engine is covered under powertrain, not bumper to bumper.
