Default F150 EcoBoost

Have had F150 super cab XLT, EcoBoost for about 2 weeks. Is the huge hole in the front bumper, with intercooler behind, a left out part or what? I drive on lots of dirt roads and logging roads, the life of the intercooler with be short when sticks and rocks flying up into that hole. Anyone know about this opening??

I went to Lowe's and bought black screen for screen door replacement. $10
Installed it behind the grill to protect the radiator etc. Also cut a smaller piece to protect the intercooler. I have done this to all my vehicles in the past 30 years to keep the coolers protected from stones and most of all the large insects which tend to bend and clog the cooling fins.. It is cheap protection.

I do not get my truck until 4/11/2011 but I am thinking of covering the hole by placing a rabbit cage wire behind it and painting it black to match. I am wondering if the screen will block too much airflow. I know the trade off will be that the rabbit wire will not stop all bugs but should stop rocks and sticks and stuff like that.

I just got my ecoboost last week and have the same concern. Would love to hear what Ford has to say about it. Looks like something is missing.

Ford will say they designed it that way! One would think you would want to protect it better, but do not reduce air flow.
