engine rattleing during acceleration
Hello i havea 2007 f-150 w 46,000 miles on it. It has a 4.2 v-6 and ever since it was new i have noticed a rattleing noise that comes from the engine when i am accelerating, recently it has been getting louder. It mainly happens when im on the freeway in 5th gear (its a manual) and am accelerating up a hill, or trying to pass someone - Basically whenever the engine is working hard. I sounds almost like a lifter rattle on an older engine. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what this noise would be? Is this a common noise for these engines?

I had a 4.0L V6 Ranger that did the same thing. It was valve chatter. Did it for 115,000 miles till i sold it to get the F150. Probably still does it. Seafoam at 80K quieted it a little.

My dad has owned nothing but 4 and 6 cylinder Ford vehicles since 1985 (2 Mustangs, 3 Rangers), and I have a 99 F150 4.6 I purchased new. EVERY ONE of those engines chattered (or chatters, in the case of one Mustang, one Ranger, and my F150).
Oh, and just so you know, the Ranger has 180000 miles, the Mustang has 250000 miles, and the F150 has 275000.
