Default 4x4 not engaging

Hello here from VT (6" of snow so far today)..My F150 (98) 4WD does not engage. Although I can shift the lever to the 4x4 position(s), the front wheels don't engage, nor does the 4x4 light appears...

Any ideas...

Appreciate it much.

Jose

You might have to jerk it towards you really hard. Not trying to be perverted. We have an older jeep that barely gets in and I have to roll a little bit in order for the 4wd to engage.

Ok. I'll try that. Do you know why is doing that? What is the part that is acting out?

It might simply be that over many times over 4wd use the gears are worn down possibly making it slip and not catch. That's just a guess.

Roll it backwards a bit, this should help the 4wd to engage

Ok thanks, and I'll try rolling it backwards. It seems like there must be a root cause for this.
