Post 4.6 durabilty

Hello all, my first day here and my curiosity was finding out the lifespan of the 4.6. I have a 98 f150 with 214k miles on it and i've done a head gasket, heater core and the usual maintenance things like brakes, radiator, shocks, batteries (2) exhaust, plugs, filters and the driver seat had to have new leather installed etc. The cost of the head gasket and heater core were the most expensive at $3000. For them both! I did put dual exhaust on my truck and have used the synthetic oil (mobil) and filter since day three of ownership. The overall cost of repairs and maintenance has been approximately $6420.00. Over 17.5 years the average is $366.85 annually. I feel pretty fortunate with this track record! My truck started off in michigan for the first 5 years and the next 11 years in phoenix but i've taken her back to michigan because i do some work there. I'm thinking about getting a used f-250 4 dr. For here in phoenix and i'm not sure to get a gas or diesel engine? I've heard a lot about the cost of maintenance with the diesels and repairs should any arise. Any thoughts?
