Default 1996 ford f150 check engine light on

I have a 1996 ford f150 6 cyl 4.9 I noticed that when the engine is warm & I go to start it wants to stumble & die but then I get it started & seems fine the other day I added some carb cleaner & drove it and noticed the check engine light on well I took it to auto zone & he tried doing a diagnostics on it and I don't think he knew what he was doing he said the machine wasn't turning on so maybe I will have advanced auto check it, but anyway just guessing could it be the o2 sensor ? thanx any help would be appreciated

Hard to say without the codes. Once you have the codes you will know where to start looking, otherwise it is a bunch of guesswork.

well I took my truck to advance auto and he knew what he was doing the kid at auto zone never even turned the key on when he was doing the diagnostic test, but anyway it wasn't reading and he said that where he plugged the machine into it was disabled and that I should have that looked at but never told me anymore what was wrong, I guess I will have a mechanic look at it, I will feel stupid if it is the o2 sensor but I hate to spend 50 or 60 replacing it and it turn out to be something else. thanx for your help!!
