Moving up from a 99 Ranger to a 02 F150
Got a sweet Christmas present this year.
Upgrading from my 99 Ranger (V6 4.0L) with a little over 211,000 miles to a 02 F150 V6 4.6L with a little over 211,000 miles .
I'm a network administrator by day and enjoy hockey and nitro RC in my spare time. I live in Iowa so my truck will end up seeing some cold winters and some warm summers.
I hope to learn a bit more about my truck through this forum. I'm not 100% sure what 'model' it is but its about as plain Jane as you can get on the inside. Manual windows and locks, no cruise, am/fm cassette, vinyl floors (which I had in my Ranger and I LOVE) and the one big bench seat. It does have the 2 half doors to get to the back seat which will be handy because I'm frequently running out of room in my Ranger!!!
What I'd eventually like to do with my truck is maaaaybe add cruise control (if its not too complicated or expensive) Upgrade the lights and stereo and attempt to get the best fuel mileage and winter traction out of the truck.
I'm very excited to spend the next few weeks reading and asking questions to learn more about this fabulous piece of equipment that will be making my garage look a little nicer

It is indeed the 02 F150 XL.
I learned that it's got a block heater on it (score!!!) and the original tag was a little over $23,000 (I got it for $2000). It's in super good condition and I just sorted through the paperwork for EVERY service it's ever had. Oil changes, tires, brakes etc. Very well taken care of with probably less than 5% rust on it. (In the typical spots, bottom of the tailgate and behind the grill)
Looks like I'll need a serpentine belt (Gates would be good for this correct?) and I'd like to get this thing to throw out some more light.
I'm super excited to get this thing sitting a little higher, and customized to be my daily driver.

I might have been on a ranger forum or two but didnt post much (mostly lurking)
Is there a spot on this forum that describes optimal setups for trucks? Recommendations for buyers of used trucks? Like XYZ spark plugs and wires will give you the most performance or best mileage, or XYZ exhaust setup will give you best performance or mileage, etc?
The few things I'm looking to do right away is to change out whatever I need (with about a $100-$300 budget) to get the best mileage. I'm going from a V6 4.0L 99 Ranger that got about 18-19 MPG, and with my V6 4.2L I'd like to get as close to that as possible.
Also, I'd like to light up the front of it like a spotlight. Bright as possible and still street legal. (How do I find out what's street legal?)
Thanks guys!!!
