Smile 1984 Ford F150

Recently bought 1984 F150. 6 cylinder, 3 speed stick. Truck is stock. Thinking about upgrading motor to V8 w/automatic trans. Need input about hooking V8 to present 3 spd, or if V8 would require auto. trans. If so, how much horsepower will stock rearend hold before upgrade? Just a simple hobby, ride around town truck. Any thoughts on a Jasper engine/trans?

JAsper is WAYYY Expensive. Believe it or not I got a good engine from Advance Auto. Well the second one was good.. Quick explanation. Installed the first engine. Had a lifter that would not pump up. They sent me another engine and paid me to put it in.. Been running good ever since. Since its a Hobby truck I would definantly drop in the v-8 with a C-6 auto tranny. I would do a 351w. Are ya looking to get some performance out of it? If so then TFS twisted wedge heads and a nice cam with a Edelbrock Performer intake and 650 CFM carb should fit the bill. That setup should net about 300 hp at the flywheel.
