Default What would you use?

I recently got a 2014 F-150 XLT with the chrome rims, grill, etc. After washing it many times and then ruining it in the ice/salt of Ohio, I was wondering what you guys use to clean the rims of the chrome wheels. I have read that a simple bath does it, but I've also read that chrome rim cleaners work well.

After a normal wash. the rims are fairly clean, but they're still spotty with brake dust, grime, etc.

I have recently bought Mother's Chrome Wheel Cleaner (
Amazon.com: Mothers 05824 Pro-Strength Chrome Wheel Cleaner - 24 oz.: Automotive Amazon.com: Mothers 05824 Pro-Strength Chrome Wheel Cleaner - 24 oz.: Automotive
) and was wondering if it was safe to use on the rims. I don't want it to peel, stain, etc. It says to spray rims, let foam sit for 2 minutes, then hose off and dry. If not, what do you use to clean your 2014 rims?

Thanks in advance guys!!

I'm not a big mothers fan but give it a try (on a test spot) and check the results.

Chrome is chrome...that being said, simple is better in most cases for chrome.
A good bath should take off road grime unless it caked on stubborn brake dust.
A good OTC product choice is Meguiars Hot Rims® All Wheel and Tire Cleaner.
As with ALL wheel cleaners, be sure and completely rinse and clean after use.

I'm glad you mentioned Meguiar's AWC. I wanted to try it but decided on Mother's. I'll return the Mother's tonight and give Meg's a try.

Also, Meguiar's won't hurt the rim's finish? I heard certain products will hurt the finish.

I'll try the Maguire's All Wheel cleaner and report back this week what happens. If I remember, I'll take before and after also.

Used Maguire's All Wheel Cleaner today. The rear rims cleaned up fairly well. The front rims cleaned up a bit but still left a cloudy appearance in some spots. I used microfiber cloths and elbow grease to scrub them. Anybody have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Another vote for the clay bar.

Also try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

I used muriatic acid to clean some rims up. 50/50 acid and water solution. Spray on with a squirt bottle, rinse off. Harder caked on stuff requires a toothbrush. At $4.99 a gallon, it's hard to beat. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
