You can use a liquid or paste wax without a cleaner in it as long as they're not flat black. If you have flat black decals us a liquid spray wax on them.

A local good consumer product is Meguiars Ultimate wax. They make a liquid and a paste.

They are exactly the same product except for the one product they add to make it a paste.

The Megs Ultimate paste can/will stain trim. The liquid does not. NOTE: Don't wax your trim.

or just get some 3m painters tape and tape off the trim and vinyl like I do. On my Harley truck I just put the tape on the decal and came out about 1/4" away over the paint to give some buffer incase something when wrong.
