Scratch removal
hey all, i have a forest green f150 with alot of scratches from when my dad used to drive it ( ), scuffs and whatnot as well where a branch or something slid down the side of the truck. what would be the best product to use to get these scratches out? also what is the best process involved? what tools will i need to do this? is it a "1 and done" fix?

how deep are the scratches? run your finger nail over them and if your nail catches in the scratch its too deep to be repaired without paint. if they arent that deep a good rubbing compound and a mechanical buffer will make quik work of scratches. follow that up with some polish to remove the swirls and a nice coat of wax to finish it off. it will be good as new!

yeah wash it first. one bottle of compound and polish should do your whole truck. im used to the commercial 3M products but i have seen a 3M paint care line of products at my local napa. its like a 3 step system i think. along the same lines as i said, rubbing compound, polish and wax. i cordless buffer will work for you, just use a new pad for each product

i dont know what either of them have out for rubbing compound or polish, but either of them usually have great products. id suggest just pick a name brand and stick to it. see if any of them have polishing kit. read and follow there directions. if the scratches arent too heavy you should have no problem cleaning them up. the reason for so many steps is becuase the first step, the rubbing compound is abrasive and thats what actually removes the deeper scratches. the polish is a lighter abrasive and that will polish out the swirl marks left by the rubbing compound. the wax will just seal it all up and protect your paint.

no once the scratched are gone, they are gone for good. it actaully removes them, not fill them in so as long as you keep the tree branches and stuff off your paint, you wont have any more scratches lol a good habit to get into is to use a claybar on it once a year and keep a good coat of wax on it as well. that helps protect the paint
