Default Rusty trailer ball

I bought a trailer ball and the chrome rusted so that it looks like it's 10 years old.

painting it black will only work til the next time you tow and then the paint will flake off where the coupler has made contact

so after thinking about this for a few minutes, in all honesty, why does it matter what the trailer ball looks like? mine stays covered in grease when not in use, and covered by the trailer coupler when it is in use. worrying about the looks of the trailer ball just doesnt enter my mind.
