FML...
are they rusty, black, or shiny? do you simply scratch them, or also polish them?

Get a Anderson "Greaseless" Ball. They sell them as standard ***** and for the Anderson Rapid Hitch. The top side of the ball has a lifetime warranty Teflon cap.

Amazon.com: Rapid Hitch 3662 Greaseless Hardball: Automotive Amazon.com: Rapid Hitch 3662 Greaseless Hardball: Automotive

Here's my standard 2" when I first got the truck.

Here is a 2" ball designed for the rapid hitch.

I wash it with the truck each time and I'll throw a little tire shine on the black telfon cap when I do the tires. Over 2yrs old and still looks new!

I had a few things I wanted to say about this but I'll just say this is the stupidest thread I've seen in a very long time.

I don't leave my ***** out in the rain. I usually keep them tucked away inside until there is something that is needing a pull. Not that hard to get it off, just needs a tug after pulling the pin out. Only takes me like 10 seconds to get it off.

i only leave my ***** out in bed, otherwise, yes, they are safely (most of the time) tucked away in a nice warm spot... Unless i need to get off...
I have got a nice natural furnace to keep them warm too.
