I did a search for "repair clear coat" and didn't turn up any thread titles that looked helpful, so I apologize if I'm inducing redundancy by asking this: What is the proper method to repair areas where the clear coat has peeled away from the paint? Does anyone have a step by step how to on this? Can this be accomplished with spray can clear?The bed cap has lost all of the clear on the top and a lot on the sides,and I noticed a few small spots on the truck body, probably from stone chips where the clear is gone. I already have enough rust on this truck to address, I would like to prevent more if possible. There also seems to be some spotty discoloration in some parts of the clear, especially where the hood bug guard used to be. Thanks to any one with some helpful info.

pics? rattle cans not going to have the gloss or durability that a 2k will also it will need color applied were its already faded and where your going to sand it. get pics and well go from there

well with the topper id start by blowing all the loose stuff off with either an air compressor or power washer. im assuming you dont have da sander? so on the small spots like on the pillar and bedside feather out the spots with either 600 or 800 grit wetsanding. the topper since its alot bigger area maybe start with 400 wet then work your way to at least 600. if u plan on priming then finishing it 400 will be fine but if you want to seal or go straight to paint the at least 600 preferably 800. i dont know how nice of a truck it is but i know i wouldnt use rattle can anything on the exterior. if you dont have the tools such as compressor, spray guns you probly be best of getting it as ready as you can and trying to get someone to spray it for you. if any of this doesnt make sense just ask!
