Default Thread searching

How do you search for a particular word within all the posts in a single thread?

I click on "Search Thread" from inside the thread. Enter the word I am looking for and no matter what I put there it always reports back with "No matches found". It can be a word that I know exists because I am looking at it in the first post and it will not find a match. I also tried putting the word in quotes "" "".

Perhaps I am doing something wrong?

It's funny how when some people post a topic or question on something that's been covered before, they sometimes get blasted for not searching first.

But someone posts a question on HOW to effectively search to avoid this and none of the "experts" will share their vast knowledge on searching.
