Personally, I think it would be a great idea as long as it doesn't turn into some sort of popularity contest.
But as Lenn said, Jon or Nathan are the two whose gonna make it happen or not. :-)

Hi-Rev Motorsports
the Reputation system has its Pro's and Con's...
Pro's are it can be useful as long as it's not abused (the Con) which happens more times than not...it seems to become a popularity contest and and even the ***-hat-mouth-breeders gets repped and and because they have rep new member deem them trust worthy....
now if you go via a Reputation Sytem you MUST utilize one that has both Positive and Negative repping allowed...good post you get rep...bad post...I taketh away...
even then it should be moderated to check the actual rep given to make sure it was worthy...as friends arent repping each other to build a number...
Personally I admin 2 forums and Moderate at 4 others...I dont use the Rep system at the ones I maintain...we are grown up and we know who the good ones are and we just weed out the ***-hats...I personally like Banning mouth-breeders...I dont need them trolling around spreading BS...
you get one guy giving the wrong info and all of a sudden you got 25,000 members believing it to be true and then the flame wars start...
so a lot of tought has to go into plus the work of someone keeping up with it all...and answering to the whiners why their rep got taken away because they thought they deserved it when it was just a buddy jacking up their count...
only 1 forum I belong to has it...and even though i am not on staff there I dont use it very much...it has to be an outstanding post to be worthy...and I prolly have the lowest there...I dont get alot of rep because i dont just hand it out that easy....
the forums I am on staff its disabled...

Tough call. I will, as much as possible, offer an answer that's as accurate to the best of my experience and ability. However, I have been proven wrong, and have admitted it when it happens.
These forums can never be considered "law"; they offer a "best answer" based on past experiences that may have taken place.
If one decides not to participate, can they be excluded from this "reputation" rating system? This way, the person who reads responses can make their own choice as to if they want to take the advice or not.

Luv you too, Hack! Still time to introduce the Rep icon for those..............."special members!"
I asked a few other "hard core Forum members" who's opinion I value to comment, I think I may find out what "be careful what you wish for" means! But give it some serious thought, & you can always resume "shooting the messenger" right where you left off! I'm here for ya!

Y, I think you may have taken that the wrong way. By "Baby" I meant the Forum, not you. Silly goose! I love the idea!!!

I agree with, & adhere to your Sig. statement! Instead of serving up the a same ol' info, point em the the ol' refrigerator o knowledge, Internet Linked Info sources & "Forum search tool". A little diggin never hurt anyone, & in addition to reinforcing the new found info,"reputable" link's also keep "IS TOO!/IS NOT! skirmishes from erupting. Here's one of my fav's:http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/ Beefing up the Forum how to section would prove helpful, but it takes time to glean & seporate "the good stuff"! But I digress! Back to Representation votes!

ymeski...do you have a link of the site that uses the rep system...I wouldn't mind checking them out and poking around.
As dr_bowtie mentions, there are pros and cons...researching them in more depth now!

Not a lot of posts &/or Pos votes needed, but enough to detour a troublemaker whose intent it is to just cause problems.
Then as mentioned, the more Pos rep votes accrued, the more the votes you give are worth. I'm assuming, Neg votes would also be more detracting, but not sure. Most people use the Pos & Neutral options w/ short comment.
Once, a Noob is out of his "probationary" period, he gets a single green marker denoted on his posts & can then vote other than neutrally. After 100 Pos Rep votes, a second green marker is denoted on his posts, and so on.
A lot of "neutrals" w/ side bar comments, like "Give em a break, you were once a noob too!" or "WWA" what's w/ the attitude? or "He's kidding" or "NWI" Not worth it! and my personal fav's, "Don't feed the Troll" & "Don't be a Troll."
