My King Ranch running boards weigh 20 lbs each side - they're sitting on the floor in my garage, so I just weighed one.

My Amp steps are already mounted, and I never weighed them.

I don't think the Amp Powersteps weigh more than 12 or 14 lbs each side. The step board is quite light and the linkages and motors aren't very heavy. The wire harness only weighs a lb or two.

Maybe Rnlcomp will weigh his before he installs them.

Just weighed every thing for one side, a single board, 2 brackets and 1 motor weighs exactly 20lbs.

Harness, hardware, lights, weigh exactly 4lbs.

So 44lbs total.

Why do you have to plug them into the OBDII port?

My guess would be the trigger for the steps module to lower and raise when the door opens and closes and which side. It only has 2 wires that go to the obd port connector.

Edit: Just read the install sheet and it indeed calls it a trigger but stops short of saying what it triggers, logic would agree with my original guess. Link to install pdf page 6 and 7 describe it... http://www.amp-research.com/?dl_id=274

Finally got them installed today, got dark on me while I was tying up the last of the harness so the pics are really only good for showing the lights.

Love how they give the appearance of the truck sitting higher off the ground than with the oem boards poking out all the time.

Just to note, if you can pull a wrench and splice a wire together you can install these boards with no problem, the directions leave a lot to be desired that much is certain, just takes a little mechanical common sense to figure it out.

Says to measure 20" and 60" from the front edge of door back for placement of the lamps but in the diagram it clearly shows 24" and 65" so which one is it? Screw it I mounted them where I wanted evenly on both sides. It also says to cut 7" off the board for super cab but they were exactly the same length as my oem boards so there is no cutting happening on them, they should just state it's optional rather than making it seem like it's mandatory.

The super cab install is a little different due to the frame mounts for the body, makes it impossible to mount the passenger side motor towards the rear like on the driver side, with that done you also have to unwrap the harness and pull the motor wiring up to the front mount and either tie it up with a cable tie or cut and splice, I opted for the latter to make a cleaner install underneath, ocd that way.

Started on it @ 2pm finished @ 5pm, took 30 mins to install the boards and brackets etc, fishing the harness thru the frame, (ocd) took the most time, I could have just attached it with cable ties but wanted it clean and oem looking.

Before mounting the motors to the brackets I opted to put in a little moly grease because I just don't like two metal gears engaging each other with no lube at all (should be supplied but isn't) had a few small packets in my tool box so a just a dab where the motor meets the linkage.

And a couple obligatory pics.

What splicing was involved, I thought plug and play to the OBD2 was to eliminate the splicing. The lights?

Nice indeed.

Finally broke down and bought a pair but not for me. They are for my brother and his wife's birthdays. They are a week apart and they will both be 75 in July. He currently has one of my factory nerfs on the passenger side and nothing on the driver side do to being short two brackets because of my steps. I hope to put them on this weekend, if he'll let me.

Have you noticed any ill effects of not cutting the boards and would you recommend not cutting them?

What are pros and cons of motor in front or back and which would you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Denny
