If you rely on Auto, you don’t know when the lights will be on. This is a potential visibility-to-others issue in inclement conditions.

If your wipers are on, your lights are on

I have to manually turn on my headlights. Good thing I still know how to do that.

One day on the way to work I was behind a dump truck at a four way stop in the country. I was hoping he would turn but he didn’t. He was accelerating very slowly and I was considering passing. It was very foggy and after checking oncoming a few times I decided not to.

Less than five seconds after that decision, a silver F-150 Screw flew past at 55 + MPH. Headlights were not on and I could not see it coming. The silver and chrome with no lights completely disappeared in the fog. I bet he had his lights on Auto and didn’t even realize that they weren’t on.

This was just after I did my mod. This is exactly the reason I did my mod. It was bright enough that they didn’t come on but too foggy to see a vehicle without headlights. Wipers weren’t required so the on-with-wiper feature was of no help.

He couldn't possibly have had manual headlights, and just not had them on? Foggy conditions, my auto lights come on

here's a novel idea. Turn them on manually. I know it's hard to reach over and move the switch one click

That is a possibility. But, I gave my Auto lamps nearly a month and know there were many times that they weren't on and should have been. And there were many time that they were annoyingly turning on and off.

That is an option but I paid good money for a vehicle with Auto lights that didn't function to my satisfaction so I fixed them.
