Default Wiring trailer...4 pin to 5 pin.

I have a 2008 F-150 which has a 4 pin connector for the wiring harness. My trailer is 5 pins, the 5th being an electrical over ride of the surge brakes so that when in reverse, the surge mechanism is disabled. Any thoughts on the best way to make the connection from the truck to the trailer?

Not having this system to verify the circuit functions as you describe, if you are correct, this is what could be done. Find wire for the back up lite, splice into it and go to the 5th wire on trailers connector. When in reverse, back up lites turn on and so will the surge brake overide be activated. One concern would be is fuse large enough to accommodate the brake overide. Good luck and let us know.

just found a 7 pole to 5 flat adapter....along with the 4 flat on the truck is a pole connection, although I need to check if it is 7 pole. Here's hoping! If not, I'll try your recommendation.

IS there a local trailer shop around you? Talk to them.. On my truck there was a spot for the extra plug, all I had to do was plug it in.

Yes, I called Master Hitch, and got it sorted. They have a 7 pole flat/5 pin flat adapter...all they have to do is install a plug under the passenger side dash to activate. Plug came with the truck with wiring for electronic brakes. Thanks
