Default When it Rains It a Floods:

The axle bearings in my '94 LTC were getting a little noisy, so I set about replacing the bearings and seals with a set of repair bearings. The fix saves buying new axles.

Anyway, I installed the new bearings/seals, pushed the axles in, installed the C-clips, installed the pinion shaft and went to put in the lock bolt and found that the lock bolt was cracked. It fell apart into two pieces. My Ford dealer was out of stock so I chased all over town for a replacement and lucked out at a local parts dealer.


While I was under the car I noticed the air springs were really getting cracked and the right spring had leaked down. Replacement is the only option, so new air springs

Then I noticed the linings on the parking brake shoes were loose, so new shoes.

The LTC is a great car, but it can be a handful if repairs are needed and what was supposed to be a fairly simple job has turned into a real workout!!

Repair bearings: $37 each
Air springs: $110 each
Brake shoes: $30 a set
Lock bolt: $3.60
Black silicon $2
Gear oil: $40
All of the above plus tax.

On the brighter side, it's good that these failures showed up when the car was in the driveway and not 100 miles from home.
