It appears that the back end of this truck is supported only by a floor jack under the center of the differential.
Years ago this was an accepted practice in tire shops.
For numerous years now I have read "do not raise your vehicle via a jack under the differential".
My question is - is it an acceptable way to raise our trucks if jack stands are then used for safety support?

In my former life I was a technician for 11 years, Toyota and ASE Master with L1. I have always lifted trucks and rwd cars up by the rear diff, and I have seen it done a million times without ever hearing someone say anything negative. Now, regardless of where you lift the vehicle, you should always use a jack stand. That is for your own safety, and for the longevity of the jack. Jack are only designed to lift the vehicle up, not to support them for a period of time.

Now, what did I do to my truck today? I replaced my missing windshield cowl ends with a set from ebay for $18. Ordered them Sunday night, got them today, not bad. I also removed my rain guards like everyone keeps saying I should, not sure it makes a drastic cosmetic difference, and if I leave the windows cracked and it rains it will suck, but hey, who am I to not give in to peer pressure. Also, installed a new set of Sylvania ZXE headlight bulbs, hopefully they will replace some of the light I lost from the smoked headlight housings. Sure wish I had put them both in at the same time, nothing like doing the same job twice

I bought the truck last week and have added the GateKeeper, Electric lock for the tailgate and now the camper shell. I also put the bed rug in.
Oh and we went to Whataburger.

The manual says to never use the differentials as a lift point. However I know several "good" mechanics that lift there own vehicle that way so I'm not sure. I never do.

I think the point of not lifing by the dif is because if you weren't careful you would catch the lip of the cover

Well I finally received my new rubber for the truck, toyo open country at ll xtremes replacements for the stock pirelli which are junk. So I had to go test them out in some sloppy red clay mud. I haven't had that much fun in a long time. I was always a BFG guy for my truck tires at work. Well that is about to change, the xtremes rock. The lugs are self cleaning, I was throwing red clay like crazy. Now I can't wait for the snow to start flying.

I use Toyo's in the winter. I think there awesome. Have fun
