Default Have you priced used trucks?

I was just wondering how many of you out there had a decent idea of the current asking prices for low mileage used trucks? I have been looking around for a while and I am convinced that they are on drugs! The main reason I have decided to buy new, is the asking price of so many used trucks that I see here in Nebraska.

No kidding...

I just stopped by yesterday to a lot near me. They offer the in-house financing BS so I figured they would be a little higher.

The reason I stopped is that they had 2 XLT Screws 4x4.

Check this out. Asking prices-

2005 Screw XLT 4x4, red, kinda needed some cosmetic work (lots of dings, tires shot) 66k miles, $21,995.

2006 Screw XLT 4x4 silver, nice overall but rather basic, no really desirable options, 21k miles, $26,995.

Whoa.

Default Priced trucks indeed:

A few months ago I was pricing used trucks and came upon the cherry 97 XLT long-bed that I ultimately bought for $3995 + sales tax.

I don't want, nor do I need, a new or newer truck or car. I have been very fortunate (or very skilled or blessed) in finding and purchasing very good used vehicles....for which I always pay cash.

My last new car was a '72 Toyota Corolla. My experience with that car led me to swear to never buy another new car or a Japanese car. Let some other poor sap eat the 20%-off-the-lot depreciation.

The most expensive car I ever purchased was a 1964 Dodge 330, 383ci, 4bbl, 4-speed Hurst, custom wheels and tires, black w/ red interior, police pursuit package....$3100. Adjusted for inflation that price now would be about $27,000.

Yeah... I guess that one lot I referred to was wacked. I got a sweet deal on my truck. 2005 Lariat 5.4 Scab 2wd with 36k. After trade in, DP, and taxes, I walked out with it for $11,500. This was only 6 months ago.

I can't say that I don't occasionally come across what seem like decent prices. Most of the time though if you want a 4x4 2005 or newer you need to bring your own KY. I know that a 2 wheel drive would suffice probably 95 percent of the time, but I am holding out for the 4x4. Two wheel drive trucks here in Nebraska do sell at more reasonable prices.

Some dealers are still in their right minds, but not many... I recently bought mine and got a good deal. It is an 06 with 48K, every option available, 4x4 Supercab 5.4 and it was listed at 17,995. That's a full 3K below KBB and 4-5K below all other dealers in my area.

If you are in Nebraska you may consider coming out to Leavenworth, KS because both Danny Zeck (my recommendation) and Rusty Eck dealers have pretty good pricing.

EDIT: Sorry, not trying to advertise... just word of mouth recommendation of the dealer I recommend. Mods, please delete if this is against the rules. www.dzford.com

I havn't had a car payment in 28 yrs. I plan to keep it that way. With a little patience you can find someone who will give thier vehicle away because it needs a bath. I have flipped many cars for extra cash. did one a month for a couple years. So most recently, 89 F-150 4x4. New tires, 60K+. Needed a u joint $12, and some polish and windows cleaned. $2000
I can drive this truck for 4 yrs and still get my $2000 out of it. Oh yes it has a topper on it too. AC is ice cold, will need a radiator before summer.

My son drives a 95 Grand Cherokee 4ltr we have had for 3 yrs. It just turned 70,000 miles. gave $4800 for it 3 yrs ago. It needed a new exhaust manifold,$100. All the OEM's crack at the same place.

Late model cars are pricey because so many people are snowballs, every time they go around, the dealer tacks on more debt. So they are so far upside down on thier vehicles, they will never see daylight.
