Question is dual exhaust worth it?

I have a 1991 f250 with a 5.0 and 5spd. Though it is a new motor (stock) it is gutless. The 6" skyjacker and 35s don't help I'm sure but I need to get the most power i can get without spending too much. It currently has single 2.5" exhaust with no cat and a cheap turbo muffler. The guy that built this thing, has $7000 in receipts and nothing but looks to show for it. Does anyone know by experience how much improvement a dual setup would make? Currently does have long tube headers, i just put an msd cap, rotor, and coil on and seem to be getting better combustion. Also, thinking about doing a custom cai setup like one i saw on here posted in January. Any information is helpful at this point. thanks

TRUE Dual Exhaust running through full length headers, and 2.5" pipes will help a great deal

Good question. I would like to know as well what someone can expect from duals. I have read that dual exhuast just looks better, but no real gain in HP.

Eagle, I see you have a 95 with a 302. do you know this because you went from single to dual on your truck and seen a performance increase, or was that just generally speaking? like I said before, i have a stock 302 and 35" tires. Stock gears still, probably 3:73's. Not interested in spending time and money re-gearing either. So i guess another question is; Will dual exhaust eliminate too much back pressure and rob all of the very little bottom end I have? Thanks a heap!

Regearing will help a hell of a lot more than dual exhaust.

what kind of difference will I see with re-gearing, say going to 4:10's? also, any idea what this swap may cost?

Regearing will put you back into the proper RPM's and you will get your power back. That's why the truck is a dog, the gearing is wrong for the tires you have on it. I'm not sure on the cost.

if my rpms change too much, i'll be doing 70 mph @ 3000rpm. I had a truck like that once, and it sucked. I don't need a ton of power and I'm not gonna be racing anyone. I just want this truck to be able to go up a hill without having to shift down so often. I honestly think if I can pick up about 20-30 hp, I will be just fine. So my question is, will a dual setup and a k&n cai help enough to make it worth doing? I also have an issue with my throttle sticking a little. It only sticks for a second and then rpms drop. The way I have found to temporarily fix the problem is to, (even while driving) shut off the ignition and turn it back on. It fixes it every time. Any Ideas??? Thanks.

both my dad and my brothers trucks are manuals, have 3:73 gears, and 35" tires. They have absolutely no problems with the gearing, because they have enough power to back it up.
