Dont forget to take resale into consideration. When you go to sell that v6 truck you have to find someone who wants a v6. I personally went with the "small" 6 lol

They are both really good trucks. Look for your best deal, what you want, etc. my 2012 5.0 is not a gas guzzler, nor is it a pig. It's a joy to drive.

For your stated needs, any of the engines in Ford's line up would suffice and give you a substantial bump in power other than the 3.7 which will be a very similar experience to what you have now power-wise.

The 5.0 and 3.5TT will be essentially the same and will be much more powerful than what you have now while the 3.5 has more stored potential.

I'd go drive em to determine what you want.

FYI, towing 6,000 pounds CAN be above the payload capacity of an F-150 and can require the use of a WDH. Read posts in the Towing section of the forum.

FYI , it is a truck! It isn't a woman, it'll do what I tell it to do!

That is about as far from truth as one can get, and spoken like someone who has never driven the 3.7. I have owned and 86 and a 96 F150 5.0, and had a 2011 3.7. There is no comparison power wise, or driving experience. The 3.7 is light years ahead of the old 5.0 as far as pure driving experience. This is coming from someone who loves the old 5.0, and would get rid of my 2013 5.0 truck if I could find a good mint late 80s to mid 90s 5.0 with super low miles.

My '91 5.0 was an absolute dog! While I haven't towed much yet with my 2014 5.0, it appears to be light-years ahead of the '91 and I wouldn't go back for anything.

The 3.7L will serve you well. But as stated above drive them all then make your choice. The mpg's on all are very close.

They're definitely pigs as far as pep is concerned, but parts are cheap, and they'll run forever if you take even somewhat decent care of them.

While I love the engine, it is that particular body style of the truck I really prefer.

Very true about cheap parts.

Of all I've had, my favorite was an '85 Regular cab 4x4 with lock-outs and 300 six with 4 speed manual.
