I have seen these posts of fuel mileage. just wanted to add my input. I have a 15' f150 5.0 FX4 with 3.55's. I have made a couple trips from Va. to Ga. and got 18 mpg driving 80+. pretty flat till you get to SC 20. but I thought it was pretty good.

The big thing with these trucks is your right foot. I have a 2009 straight cab long bed 5.4 3:55 gears 4x4. I can get anywhere from 22mpg (at 55) to 18mpg. (at 80). Depends on how fast you want to get there and how much you want to pay for the shorter time.

Just got back from a 2300 mile trip towing a 12 foot travel trailer. It's a 1960 "canned ham" style. Went From Seattle to Yellowstone National park & back.
Driving 70-75 I got 11.8 mpg the first day so I slowed down to see what happens. At 62 mph I got about 13.5 mpg. Which was much better but then you have to deal with folks who want to pass all the time. Settled on 64-65 mph for about 13.3 mpg. Tried using my foot so I could be stingy with the gas (vs cruise control) and it seemed like I could get .1 or .2 better.
Not sure how you fellas get your dash readouts to show those big numbers.
My actual mileage (actual miles divided by actual gallons) was always pretty close to what the readout on the dash showed (within 1 or 2 tenths).

...because lots of these guys have the 3.7.
and some of them have the 3.7, regular cab, 2WD. those are the true mileage trucks on our forum. that one guy last page even beat the mileage on my 4cyl, manual transmission ranger!

Just got back from my trip. Drove 1350 miles each way to Oregon. Averaged 18-21 mpg, some places better than others, but certainly better than I expected to get.
2004 FX4 5.4 Triton, set cruise control usually right at 69-71 and just let her go. Almost all Interstate Driving.

The official proof that the 3.5L EcoBoost & 3.73 gears suck on the highway. This is from Chicago to Destin Florida over to Disney in Orlando, and then back home to Chicago. This was June 2015.
Only 20,000 miles on the truck, new air filter,
.....and I averaged only 16.9mpg over almost 3,000 miles.
Worst I got was 16mpg on a tank of gas from Alabama 100% highway.
Best I got was 18.8mpg on an ethanol free tank of gas from Tennessee 100% highway.
Those were all determined by TRIP A, and TRIP B was the average of all tanks.
Most of this was on cruise control, probably 95% of it doing 70-75mph. The only way to achieve 21mpg in this truck is to do just under 60mph on cruise the entire trip, and we all know that's not a reality. Family in car including an infant, so no aggressive driving.

The Ultimate MPG thread.
This was from a trip from southwest Missouri to the florida panhandle and includes driving around there for a week. I drove a steady 5mph over the whole trip.
2013 supercrew 4x4 3.55s 10ply 285/70/17s 5 star 87 perf/tow tune.
This was my lifetime at 50k miles. I guess I am happy with it but would like it closet to 18 all the time.
