I have a 2014 XLT SC 5.0 with tow package 6.5 bed and 3.55 gears.

I am upgrading to a 8500 pound trailer which will be goose neck mounted in the bed.

If I am looking for pleasant towing experience should I move to the 6.2 or diesel? Lot's of hills and inclines and I will also have 3 motorcycles in the trailer.

I suggest moving this to the towing section.

Payload is the first number you ought to look at.
8K is a lot for the 5.0 unless you are near sea level and/or in a flat area.

I know a bunch of construction workers who hate GM for towing. And they hate the GM transmission failures due to towing even more.

They say with Ford, you put it in OD and drive worry free.

Technically, the 8000# is higher than Ford's towing rating for a 5.0 F150. He can step up to a F150 EB or a GM 6.2 in a 1/2 ton truck but both are near the max once that's loaded. The Ford tranny is tuned better. The next option is a 3/4 ton truck.

So you've had this truck for only ~5 months and now decide to tow more? And you towed these things before? I must ask why you just didn't get max out the towing specs from the beginning? (Ecoboost, Max Tow, highest gears, etc)

Whatever you get, don't expect the dealer to give you much for your current truck.

sounds like a case of "that trailer is a little heavy for my truck, better get a bigger truck... (new truck comes in) well, that tows like nothing, better get a bigger trailer! (new trailer almost here) oh wait... better get a bigger truck now!"

It depends on if he is 4x4 or not. If he is 2wd he is good to go by the numbers if the pin weight is not over payload. I have a 6.5 bed scab 4x4 stx 3.55 gears and 5.0. I tow a 3 horse gn trailer with ac in the dressing room. It is light on the pin at under 1000 loaded and weighs about 7000 on light trips to about 8000 on heavy ones. My truck tows this load easy even in hills. I can run with traffic and often pass other trucks towing smaller trailer on the hills. The 5.0 will do its part and pull the weight easier than you think. The payload is the gray area.

Friend is selling his toy hauler as he is now getting out of racing due due to family reasons.

When I bought my F150 this was not the case and I spec'ed out for my current trailer.
