Hi All,
Hoping to get some feedback on my F150 FX4 2009 5.4L. 125K
It is currently sitting in my local Ford dealership's workshop with a broken timing chain guide (left side). I started to hear some strange knocking noises at about 95K, so I took it into my dealership and asked them to check it out. The response was "couldn't find anything wrong". Last week while driving and coming to a stop at the traffic lights, the engine idle dipped dramatically and started to shudder, the engine warning light also came on. I put it into neutral and revved the engine to about 1500 RPM, this sequence happened four or five times and so I obviously made an appointment at my dealership to diagnose the problem. The main tech took it for a test drive and said there was no problem, but while he left it idling back at the workshop the same thing happened. I am now faced with a $3500 bill for repair,...............thoughts please.

Look for deal on a 14 and trade up , if you are able to.

Not financially in the position to trade up. I thought after having four years of repayments I could take a break and then this happens,......I was perhaps looking for some kind of redress from the Dealer as I bought it to there attention while the truck was still under warranty, but no longer now.

Check out the price of repairs at a reliable independent auto repair shop. Dealers usually have the highest prices around.

$3500!!! Holy moly! I would check with a good independent shop as Wanted suggests. That is app a $2k job max as long as it is only chain/guide/tensioner set.

Ford have me over a barrel. To diagnose the problem the tech dismantled the front end and then found the timing chain guide was in bits. Spoke to the Service Manager today, he admitted that Ford know there is a problem with this component. He said he would check the history of which I explained earlier that I reported knocking noises while the truck was still under warranty. The service desk guy called back saying I still have to pay but they have lowered the repair bill to $2900 taxes in.
I will be writing to Ford Canada direct to see if there should be a recall for timing chain components and why should I have to pay up when they know there is a problem.

[MENTION=187455]Lowey33[/MENTION], I didn't notice you were in Canada. I have no idea what your cost converts to in US dollars, but it may be close to the cost of repairs here. I was just thinking out loud.

FYI, you always have the option to have another shop pick the truck up on a roll back, and take it to their shop. May be worthwhile to check, it may be cheaper.
