Default Replaced starter now dead battery

Hello I have a 2001 F150 with 5.4. I had the starter and relay replaced today. I brought the truck home and everything was fine. Took it to town later on and my lights started to get dimmer and dimmer. Eventually I had no gauges or dash lights. I made it to a parking lot and the truck would idle but as soon as I tried to turn the headlights on, it died. The battery is drained.
Does anyone know if they could have crossed a wire or connection when they put the starter on? Or maybe the alternator decided to go out tonight. Thanks for any advice.

Could be the alternator or the wires connecting it to the system.

Sounds more like an alternator to me than the battery.

However, discharging the battery like that isn't good for it, and if it's older i would suggest replacing it anyway.

You can take the altenator off and have it tested at most parts store. If you can find a local alt rebuild shop would be better. They will build you a much better altenator.
