Starter Truck
Okay so I'm new to this site and to trucks. What I really need/want at this point is a decent looking truck, that gets decent gas mileage, for a decent price, but still has a powerful engine for having "truck duels" with my buddies, and getting work done. At 18 yrs old, what would you go with???

What I went with was a 3 ish year old RCSB with a V6 and manual tranny...45k miles cost me $10k was paid off in 3 yrs and now after 9yrs it has 205k and my dad drives it.

THIS. The 4.0 SOHC is a powerful enough motor if you get a 2001 or newer. Rangers are easy enough to work on and there hasn't been a major redesign since 93 so a surprising amount of parts are interchangeable and can be found a salvage yards. I've had 3 of them, and they all did more actual "work" than several of my friends trucks that felt the need to drive around in 3/4 ton trucks. Ranger's do pretty darn good off-road as well, it's much easier to negotiate tight trails in a Ranger than a full sized truck.
And I know this may be hearsay on a Ford forum, but the 2005 and newer Frontier with the 4.0 is a very powerful truck. 300 hp isn't out of the question with bolt-on modifications.
