Default starter fastners

replacing starter motor in my 1998 f150 4.2 unfournely one of the bolts was replaced with a c clamp
my question is does any one know what the thread is
one is a stud that carries the ground cable and the other is a hex bolt i know most of the fastners are metric but the broken part of the stud that i removed was 3/8x16
i know i can put anything in their but i like too do things right
also looking for the replacement stud which i was told came only with new starter which is nla from ford is their any truth too this

First of all, it's not really that simple of a question, the only way I know how to check would be to take the bolt out. So, basically, you're asking someone to take half their starter out. There may be someone on here with a in-depth manual but I'm not sure.

Have you called Ford or just heard they can't help? I would ask Ford first, as they may be able to give you the size. I've never seen starters come with mounting bolts but I could be wrong.

I just installed a starter in my 98 I'm sure you figured it out by now but for those who search and find this thread they are 3/8-16 x 1 9/16; if you replace the stud it's the same thread pitch but 1/2" into the bell housing, 3/4" sticking out with a quarter inch shoulder. Kinda odd seeing that the engine to transmission bolts are metric...
