Agree. I will take some pictures for comparison when I do the install. I went over a nice pile of snow..playin around, when i was leaving the office I was walking to truck (fx4) and I was like - what is that hanging down under my truck, wtf. It was the trans cover made out of some type of heavy duty felt materials held on by four thumb screws and the brackets are crap. Of course the manual says remove if going off road, i was just having fun in the parking lot.
This led me to RCI after doing research.

Front OEM skid plate is galvanized steel, about 2' x 2' and 3/32nds in thickness. It is secured to the frame with 4 large bolts. This is not a part that simply will crumble or fall off. Yes, a bad hit on a boulder or stump definitely would dent it, while probably saving the front end.
Back OEM skid plate is a thick plastic (guessing 5/32nds based on finger calipers) of the same type as the rail caps. It's heavy and covers the entire fuel tank, 6' X 16".
