Should I purchase the extend warranty thru Ford when purchase new vehicle?

That is the finance dude doing his sales pitch. I just bought a 13 Nissan last week, every thing he offered me had a warranty built into it. I declined all and went with my credit union he was not happy. But he did state I can purchase a warranty later.

There are lots of online sellers of genuine ford esp. Look into floodfordesp, zeigler ford esp, and Lombard ford esp. All are reputable, though prices will vary. Flood is generally cheapest unless you can find a great promo code for the others. You can find their websites using a search engine. I don't remember them exactly since it was months ago. I had a sweet code that made zeigler the cheapest by about $25.
This is the same thing your dealer was selling for at least half price......
If you wait 12 months after initial purchase the price goes up a bit too.

if it was a good deal for the customer, the dealer/mfg wouldn't offer it
that's assuming you stay on top of your maintenance and don't drive it like you stole it. Even then, my recent experience with a truck less than a year old wouldve gone better had it not been under warranty - that's because the dealer's mechanic that was certified to do warranty work was off for a week ... which meant my truck was parked for a week just needing a PCM reprogram. Had it not been a warranty repair I'd have been in/out of the dealer in an hour or two

I always buy one for the peace of mind. Like others have said you can buy one up until your original warranty runs out. My suggestion is tell the guy you know he lied, and your going to buy one online. That will show him. @packplantpath has suggested some good options. I bough mine from Flood Ford who had the best deal at the time. It was a smooth transaction, and I saved 700 bucks over my dealer's asking price.
If you decide to wait, it will cost you a bit more. Approx. $100 or so.
BTW, but only the genuine Ford ESP. No 3rd party. IMHO.

Extended warranties are as stated already, peace of mind. As an ex Ford tech and life long technician my self I can tell you like anything else you buy, it is a gamble. Buying extended warranties is just another form of insurance.
I can't remember how many extended warranties that paid for them selves on a customers first and possibly only use, 1 A/C compressor fails and you just got your money back, trans or engine failure it paid for itself 3 times.
I have 2 brand new vehicles in my stable and both have ESP for the very reasons stated above.
Go ahead and drink the koolaid consumer reports is serving if you like the flavor.
To the op, your dealer is lying to you about having to buy up front with the vehicle, you can buy it at anytime for the same cost for 12 months/12000 miles, after that it gets more expensive up to the expiration of the factory warranty. I used floodfordesp.com and Lombard at the lowest price for each at the time. Best peace of mind money can buy.

On more meds than ymeski
I've gotten a good chunk of mine back but none on the wifes ride. Still have many miles left on them both. Even if I don't use either the rest of the time the peace of mind for me is worth it though.

Here's bumper to bumper coverage for you. I have the Premium Care extended warranty on mine, with a $50 deductible. I got a really good price on it too. "Bumper to bumper" they told me, all the little stuff that breaks.
1) I take the truck in for service and they notice that one of my license plate lights is out, the socket is rusted and needs to be replaced. Cost? Exactly $48, which is under the deductible, so I pay.
2) One day at about 64,500 miles (well within the extended warranty), my fuel filler for no longer closes. Seems like the spring is busted. I take it to the dealer and it turns out it is the spring and the whole plastic assemble that holds the door in place is broken and needs replacing. Cost? Just about $190. I ask about the warranty and the service manager shows me on his computer where he ran the part numbers and none of them are covered, so I pay.
Two times I've needed it, two times I haven't been able to use it. So much for bumper to bumper coverage. It's bumper to bumper coverage except for the parts that Ford won't cover. I'll never buy one again.
