Should I buy a 2011 F150 3.5tt supercrew.
Hey all, new to the forum here and in the process of purchasing a used truck. I went and drove a silverado 5.3 6 speed with 36000 miles on it, I was pleased with it until I drove a 2011 XLT eco supercrew. Wow, what an amazing truck. So I have a friend who owns a car dealership and he's currently locating one for me. He says it'll be a 2011 or newer XLT supercrew with under 40000 miles on it for the price I want to pay him. I did a lot of reading since then and know about the possible shutter/cac/misfire/plug gap/ etc, etc, etc. problems. I started having 2nd thoughts and considered a 5.0, but I really love the eco.
AM I STUPID TO PURCHASE A ECO BOOST F150 WITH ALL THE KNOWN PROBLEMS? I can work on em, I've never had a vehicle in the shop, done all my own work in 28 years of driving. Plus drive train warranty should be good for 1 year and a half or 20000 after purchase.
1st thing I'm going to do is put new plugs gapped to .28 in and drive it.
Down the road maybe get a catch can like the RX dual valve system or similar.

He may have one for me in a day or in a week, so any help from F150 eco supporters on weather I should buy this truck or pull him off the hunt would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!

Basically he's getting one specifically for me, if it doesn't check out good on the carfax or auto check I will have him put it on his lot. I'm not sure if this will tick him off, but gots to look out for #1. He's the one that recommended I drive one and I'm glad I did. Seems like a lot more truck then the silvy. I mostly will use it for towing my 19' baja boat(4000+lbs), camper(I may upgrade to a travel trailer from the pop up), and general building supplies for projects. My jeep grand cherokee does these tasks now, and I've damn near killed it with all the work it's done.

The roof rack on the jeep collapsed carrying 20 pressure treated 2x8x10's last week. I need a truck again. My favorite truck I had was my 92 dakota with a 318. Did a lot of work with it. Then I made the mistake of trading it in on a 2001 ram 2500 with a 360. What a mistake that was, had a difficult time getting 300 miles on 34 gallons of gas and what a rough ride!

Yeap same here....if the truck checks out pretty clean from the carfax and your dealership buddy has no more info about the truck being nothing other than being good to go, i'd do it...I think you'd like the truck a lot more than the Chevy

I don't know how much of a price gap you would be paying for a used one compared to new? If it's about $5,000 - $7,000 I would just buy new to have the warranty. I got a 2013 and the eco came highly recommended but was reluctant to buy one as I never would buy a full size truck with a lawn mower engine in it. So I test drove one and was amazed. Found one I liked and bought it. So far, 12,000+ miles on it and it has been good. I'm still worried about all the stuff I've been reading, but don't dwell on it. As for fixing your own, I'm the same way, but the older I'm getting the less I want to screw with it. Good luck and buy an EcoBoost, you'll love it.

I'm told he can get me in a 2011 supercrew Eco 4x4 with under 40000 miles for more like 15,000-17,000 below buying new keeping my payment around 400. I may try to get an extended warranty.
