Semi-dumb question on coolant
I have a 2001 F150 that has orange coolant in it, no way to know exactly what kind. I need to add some but have heard horror stories about adding the wrong type and it turning into Bill Cosby Jello-O or growing a get-your-***-to-mars Quato. Others claim the wrong type of coolant stole their girlfriend and emptied their bank accounts... So...
Can I add *any* orange coolant?

The only orange coolant I know of is Dexcrap (Dexcool), that junk clogs radiators. GM uses it or used it, don't know if they ever stopped.
I would drain then flush with water until clear and refill with good ole Prestone.

If Prestone DEXCOOL is so bad, then why is it the coolant in my 2013 F150?
its orange, and the FORD recommended part # is the same as the prestone DEXCOOL. or the Motorcraft "specialty" coolant (who's to say its not the same stuff?)

Ok, I pulled my user's manual. It says use ORANGE COOLANT.
Also, it lists WSS-M97B44-D2 as the equivalent.....Which is PRESTONE DEXCOOL prediluted.
If this is so bad, why is it factory filled with this, and why is it recommending this? (also what evidence is there that this affects FORD'S the same as it did early years Dexcool in GM vehicles?)
