Default Hill Descent Control Fault/Service AdvanceTrac/Hill Start Assist Not Available

I have a 2015 F150 King Ranch with the 3.5L EcoBoost. It has 41,000 miles and never had an issue until yesterday morning and today around lunch.

This was from yesterday 10/23/17:

Hill Descent Control Fault
Service AdvanceTrac
Hill Start Assist Not Available

I was pulling out onto a highway and the truck began shaking violently, moving very slow with no acceleration, power steering was lost, and the dashboard was showing all the above errors.

Luckily there were no vehicles coming when I entered the highway and there was a place to safely pull off the highway. The truck continues to idle rough and shake violently.

And today 10/24/17:

I was driving down the interstate at 70 mph when the truck did the same thing as yesterday morning. I was able to pull off the side of the highway and shut off the motor. Once I restarted the engine, I was able to get it to the local Ford dealership. They say they have no idea why it would be doing this and have not heard anything from Ford or seen this in other F150’s they have serviced.

Anyone out there dealt with this situation?

Looks like a steering rack issue. Sounds like you need a trip to the dealership... Hopefully your truck is still under warranty!

There are several threads about this issue on the web:

The local Ford dealership called and said the fix would be in replacing the Electronic Throttle Body and cleaning some other part of carbon buildup. The truck was not still under warranty and this repair cost me $770 out of pocket. A Google search of these issues shows many problems with Ford vehicles related to the ETB's in vehicles of all classes. Many believe Ford knows they have issues and some are even involved in lawsuits against Ford because of their failure to recall and replace.

I am telling you, it was a scary experience in both of my situations and this will be the first and last Ford vehicle I buy. I like the truck but at 41,000 miles, my family and I shouldn't be put in harms way because of faulty ETB's or anything else. I am going to report my issues to the NHTSA. It would be nice if someone directly from Ford contacted me to discuss this problem as the dealership said they had not seen or heard of this problem.

Default 10/25 Same Issue today - 2013 f-150 platinum 62k miles

Glad I found this thread so mechanics can easily diagnose this. Seems a major problem and from my limited research this afternoon looks like Ford only recalled the 2014s and not the 2013s, which is interesting.

Anyways I was driving and started seeing the same warnings. Hill decent control fault, service advance track, etc and while driving in the city (Boston) thankfully not on the highway, the warnings came back on except this time with the Power Steering Assist failure and I lost control of steering. Luckily was able to force the wheel slightly to the right slow down and get into a bus lane. Anyways tried to shut down and restart and I could not budge the wheel, got stuck on the side of the road in the city in a bus lane at 4pm was terrible, took two hours to get a tow out of there and I had to take a cab home.

i did buy the car used at 50k, and may not know how it was treated before me; however this vehicle was in pristine condition and I’ve had no mechanical problems since getting it until this happened out of no where.

the vehicle now has 62k miles on it and it appears to be happening around that mileage on a lot of other posts I’m finding around the internet specifically for the 2013 F-150, which is why I wanted to post this.

i did buy the extended warranty, however from a used car lot where I towed it back too so hoping this is covered from that. But it be nice to know if I would have been able to or if I am able to have this serviced by a Ford Dealership as it appears a recurring problem from a lot of 2013 f-150 owners around this mileage. Does any one know if this recall has been extended to the 2013 vehicles yet?

I feel you... Safety first. I have the airbag inflator recall that can kill the front passenger (recall is out since August) and Ford still hasn't replaced mine. They said some parts are backordered. Safety first, huh?

Sometimes they engineer things the wrong way without knowing it and it ends up being very dangerous (like losing your power steering on the freeway...)

PitcherJLT, did the electronic throttle body replacement and carbon cleaning fix this for you? So may have had similar issues but mine is a 2015 F150 ecoboost and did the same thing as yours with the shaking and error messages. Any help appreciated. I know this is an older thread.

I didn't need to do any special cleaning. I wiped out the connection point, swapped in the new eThrottle, and am happily moving along 3.5 years later.

Default ETB issues

Hey guys… kind of a younger hobby mechanic so my knowledge in these things isn’t that extensive. Built a bronco for my high school ride, but all the computer systems just don’t make sense to me.

Anyway, I purchased a 2015 f150 from a used dealer. 101,000 on it. After probably 5 months or so, my truck threw the glorious p2112 code and the beautiful orange wrench flashed on my screen. So I do the logical thing and swap my throttle body. Cleared the code and did a relearn, worked like a charm! For about 4 months maybe? Now, I only Use this pickup for work really, and I know That a couple thousand miles doesn’t dictate the need for a new throttle body. So, I went The long way round, tried to replace everything I could Think of before the throttle body again.

I proceeded to replace my PCV valve, as I saw A lot of blow by oil in my throttle body intake… I replaced The air sensor on top of my motor (MAF?)… and put a new air filter in it I think Anyway, I couldn't Think of much else and could not get the code to go away, so I swapped my throttle body again. It didn’t work! So I bought a SCT live wire and hoped maybe if I tuned It the throttle body would re learn? Didn’t end up doing anything so I did A kam reset (it was an option after the tune installed, don’t really know what it is) but it worked!

I drove my truck for maybe 3 months. Then it happened again, but I was Running it on a factory tune, as it had thrown the code prior while pulling a trailer! Power off on the interstate… stupid, I reset it to factory, and then it worked a few more weeks… so, this time… I get BBK 73mm, install it and get a code for a leak between the throttle body and intake. As well as the p2112 throttle actuator stuck closed. So I decide To take it to the shop.

they tell me it’s the throttle body, yet I explained Many many times it wasn’t as it had about 120 seconds of idle time. They said I had To replace the throttle body with a ford one but wouldn’t use one of the 3 i have sitting at home. I looked Everywhere before going to them because I knew This was how it would be, but I had No options(no shops in town have the diagnostic besides ford) so here we are $750 to the dealership, after trying to convince them to look somewhere else, but it worked after they swapped it… so, I was Happy! drove for about 6 months this time. Now we’re looking at the same scenario. But I dont Want to take it to the dealership…

a common factor that I have Noticed is my throttle body intake always had oil on it. So I bought A catch can, got it installed yesterday, now I’m trying to use my BBK 73 mm that I spent 500 dollars on, but it starts up, revs to 3000 rpm, then sputters and gives the p2112 code again. Is there a relearn process for when someone installs one of these? If anyone has found a solution to the ETB problem ford has, please let me know! Thank you all in advance

I'd get with BBK on their throttle body. I've had zero issues with mine. They may have used a faulty motor/gear assembly.
