It means that you have a hydrogen sulfide source somewhere in the vehicle. May be rotten eggs lol

the smell happens when your battery goes bad and leaks. replace the battery and it should go away

I experienced this this issue once many years back, but it was not the battery, it was the alternator. Seems that the alternator was overcharging my battery causing that nasty egg fart smell.

Rotten egg smell can come from both a fried battery and a bad cat. If you experience an overcharging condition, then you should replace your battery anyhow. The excess heat from overcharging can and usually does warp the plates inside of the battery. This may not kill the battery right away, but it will fail. This happened to me last summer. Alternator failed so I replaced it and the belt, but kept getting a charge light flickering on the dash. Took me all summer to figure out because the battery seemed to hold a charge. I would do a complete charging system check just for peace of mind.

In my time, too much fuel messing up the cat. My nose signals a different sense to the battery overcharging stuff.

Guess it all depends on which end the smell comes from. Get a good smell by the exhaust.
