ring/pinion set?
what are ring/ pinion sets for? i know that they go to your differentials. but what for? i have a 95 ford f-150 extended cab v8 5.8L 351 windsor automatic. its stock, no mods. im ready to put on a 6 inch lift with 35x12.5 on 15 stock rims. i have no idea what kind of axle i have. need some help.

they are what create the gearing in your axles.....when you read that a differential is geared at say 3.73 thats determined by the gear set or ring and pinion set that is in the differential housing which in turn is attached to the axle turning the wheels

oh alright i see, how do i figure out what mine is set at? because im lookin to buy a new set for better perfomance for my truck when i get my lift and tires on it.

Should be a tag on the differential cover. It might say something like 3.77 or 3L77. 377 is the ratio and the L designates its limited slip. The door post will also show a code, ford can translate it for you.
