Default Safe to drill holes in 2012 f150 5.0l fx2 supercab

Seen youtube video of guy drilling holes in his ram bed to attach aluminum bars by rivets to make a platform sleeping bed. Would like too do the same in my f150, any suggestions on which side of the bed is safe to drill holes.

Lightbulb

Michael Casey...
Huh? What? "ram bed"?

...which side of the bed is safe to drill holes
(stating the obvious) The side that when you drill holes, rivets don't poke-out and remain externally visible, and where you don't puncture and/or drill into/thru something critical.

Drill won't be going in too deep as well as rivets. Thank you for the reply.

I’d try to avoid doing that if at all possible. Do you have loan tie downs in the bed? Could you do you build using those bolts/holes as attachment points? Or make your build independent (slides in slides out) but secured to those tie downs

What side of the bed do you sleep....that is the side you should drill.

I don't know how we can answer this question.
If you won't go under the truck to look at what you're drilling in to yourself, how are you even going to know where to drill?

If I say "drill on the right", are you going to assume the whole right side is absent of obstacles?
Am I missing something?

I assume the video you saw was suggesting rivets since there is not much room to work under the bed to install nuts and bolts? To add/remove updates to your work you would need to drill out the rivets each time you made a modification to your design. If you could find a location with underside access, you could use nuts and bolts for your design.

If possible, set up a stop on your drill so when you push through, the drill hits the truck bed and goes no deeper than necessary to poke the metal. Think of it like a masonry drill uses a stop for the proper depth.
