Default Replaced windshield and paid too much

I had a rock chip my windshield and before I could get it repaired it turned into a crack going up my passenger side. Well, long story short I have USAA which has a deal through SafeLite Autoglass. I ended up paying $460 to get my windshield replaced today. My wife proceeded to call me saying her dad (which owns a salvage yard) could have replaced the windshield for around $150. On top of that, I found out my cousin in Oklahoma is still installing windshields......and he could have done it all cheaper as well. What's that song? "It's a great day to whoop somebodies *****"? lol. Oh well. Live and learn I guess.

By the way it's a factory replacement of my existing windshield. F-150 logo and all with the tint.

I just had my windshield replaced for the same reason the price was the same as I got OEM glass. I only paid $100 my insurance deductible. Of course it's not a fun time when you have to spend money but you didn't get taken or over charged.

Got a rock chip in my windshield on the passenger side. Picked up a resin repair kit at Walmart, fixed it myself before it got worse, only takes a few minutes. 2013 F 150 STX. If it does crack this winter when I turn on the defroster, it is covered under my comprehensive with 0 deductible.

I hate to burden you with bad news but the glass you paid for is not OEM. Last week one of my employee's had his windshield repaired by the same company. Since he was there I decided to ask him for a price to replace my windshield because mine is cracked as well. He quoted me $345. I asked him if the new windshield was an aftermarket windshield or OEM. He told me they do not carry OEM windshields, they're all aftermarket but they look just like OEM. I asked what the difference was between OEM and aftermarket and he said the difference is the thickness of the glass. He said OEM is much thicker.

Yup. It's far, far easier to crack an aftermarket windsheild. I pay the extra and make 100% sure it's OEM because if it's not, it's crap. It's the same as bumpers, aftermarket ones are so brittle they crack to the point that the money you save on them is just going to be spent continually replacing them.

Get OEM or don't bother replacing it.

I was going to say, we had USAA and never paid for a new window but looking into it, that was because we had a 0 deductible for COMP. Even when it wasn't 0 we always keep it lower. (around $100 which has saved us multiple times)

I have USAA for pretty much everything and am completely happy, but they can be weird sometimes. We switched to Geico which we got cheaper premiums, higher coverage and lower deductibles.

Hence the logo stamped on the oem windshield. Sound Screen. It does make a difference for interior sound levels.
