Default Replace the frame???

I've been looking for a nice used F150 Lariat 4x4 lately, and I thought I found a real gem. 2014 with 17,000 miles and from the pictures the truck looked like it just came off the factory floor. So I called the dealership and talked to a salesman and he told me the truck belonged to a relative of one of the dealership's employees. "Good" I was thinking to myself. However he told me the truck had "hit a curb" and "bent the frame", and that the truck drove fine but the owner wanted the frame replaced anyway.

How in the heck do you replace the frame? That said, I passed on the truck. For what they were asking I can get a new XLT loaded that hasn't been banged up.

I hope you steer away from this lying dealership in the future...

I will not be spending my money there, that's for sure.

Wow. I worked in a body shop for a few years and never heard of anyone bending the frame from hitting a curb. Unless of course he was going Mach 2.

Yeah, someone isn't telling the whole story, and bending the frame yet they claim the truck drove fine is a line of BS too. Maybe it seemed to drive fine but it's gonna cause hell later down the road....

We replace frames all the time in our fleet, it's just like changing any other part, remove all fasteners, replace part, install all fasteners. Just time consuming, not unheard of.

Bending the frame from hitting a curb? How tall was that curb?
.

This^ I've seen many frame replacements. I saw 3 replaced on 2 f150's, and 1 expedition, in my final year at Ford. But those were in a serious collisions. Not to mention the countless...countless, Tacoma frames I saw replaced for the rot recall, when I worked for Toyota.

Bending a frame by hitting a curb? Like rnlcomp said, must be a giant curb.

Well I learn something new everyday, I didn't think a frame could be replaced.

The seller didn't say what kind of curb he hit. Maybe he drove off a four-floor parking garage and hit a curb, I don't know. LOL

Frame replacement happens a lot more frequently than you think - especially with fully boxed hydro formed frames. There not so easy to straighten. My daughter hit a curb with her 06 Jeep and bent the four link mounting points bad enough that State Farm went for a frame replacement. It was done at my local Ford dealer in one day with a special crew of guys they hire specially for doing frame replacement. By the way, there were 2 f250 frames sitting in the body shop that had already been replaced. These guys were good. I went over the Jeep thoroughly and couldn't find anything out of place - and I looked hard.

Quick Reply: Replace the frame???
