Picked up my FX4 yesterday. Poor gas mileage so far
Hello all.
I picked up my 2014 FX4 yesterday in Buffalo New York. I am driving it back home to Oklahoma today. I have driven about 600 miles and I am only averaging 16.6 miles per gallon. Is this normal? I was hoping for 19 to 20.
Thoughts?
Thanks
Chuck

The factors that are likely to have the greatest impact on your fuel economy are absent from your post: engine and transmission.

I'd rather be sailing.
Rear gear ratio, speed driven, wind and hills, tire size, can noticeably impact also!
I'm running max tow with 3.73 rear end. Anything over 60 mph and the gas MPG goes down fast!

3.15, 3.55, 3.73?
I've been getting ****-poor fuel economy since I picked my truck. The dash shows 14.1 in mixed driving, easy on the pedal, with a level and otherwise stock.
I'm scared of what I'm going to see on Friday after my wheel & tire upgrade.

There was a noticeable improvement in my mileage after the first couple thousand miles.....this time of year you will also encounter "Winter gas" blends which hurt mileage as well......you will see improvement....congrats on the purchase!

I drive all hiway in my 14 3.5 with 3.73, synthetic and premium fuel, I cruise on average about 115 klm\hr and my usage always settle back at 13.9 ltr/100 klm, even after resetting the gauge.
Not overly impressed. 37k on her now.

Under ideal conditions, with street tires or a fairly mild AT tire, with the speed at or under 65 mph you might get 18-19 mpg. Driving faster, city driving, more aggressive tires and winter fuel hurt fuel mileage.
I bought my 14 used in May and did 18-19mpg on a few trips during the summer, about 15-16 around town with the overall average at about 17. I got 21 on one tank on a 300 mile stretch under ideal conditions running about 60 and using every trick in the book to maximize fuel mileage. Since October I've dropped to about 16-17 hwy and about 13-14 city.
I'd say 16.6 is about right.
