Default Over heating

I have 12 f150 with the ecoboost. I tie my 6k boat behind. When I go uphill it starts to get hot to the point where it's about to overheat. I let go of the gas pedal for it to drop in temp. I've never had this problem before. Brought it in to dealership, they said if it can't be duplicated they can't do anything. They told me to drive it till it overheats then they can fix it. I don't want to mess up the engine and be stranded out in he desert.

Were you using tow/haul mode and did this happen when you were on cruise control as well?

There's another great suggestion by the dealer. DO NOT overheat your truck to replicate the problem. Go to another dealer, or if you go back to the same one, tell them to get ****ed.

Yes for tow mode. No cruise control. I went to 2 different dealers and they said the same thing. What am I suppose to do when I tow? I don't know if I mentioned it but it only does that uphill. I would have to slow down to about 35 mph for it to be ok. That's very frustrating. I towed my boat with my other trucks before and this was never the case. Does anyone if I can get ford to help out somehow

how high is the gauge going...all the way to hot or the upper end of the normal range? also what is the ambient air temp? are you gearing down to raise engine RPMs?

On the older trucks the dash gauges were basically just dumby gauges and didn't show a accurate temp. I had installed aftermarket gauges on my 03 and from about 130-200* on the AutoMeter gauge the factory gauge never moved, just stayed straight up and down.

Is that the case for these trucks too?

OP....make a shout out to Rnlcomp,....I believe he was a Ford Tech. He seems to really know the F150. Probably best option.

It got all the way to hot where the screen said engine overheat then I let go of has pedal. Brought to dealer and they said there was no code. It was about 100 outside. I do this every year and when I first got the truck it didn't do it. My Avalanche, excursion, Silverado and Denali never overheated in these conditions.

I have to think it could be a faulty temp sensor. Your truck should be able to tow without overheating.
