I wish I had the satisfaction of abusing the truck but that's just not the case. 4x4 has only been used to clear intersections then turned off. Never ever used it on dry I guess I gotta give Michelin a high five for such great traction on ice it twists drive shafts what a joke. Pardon my attitude gentlemen I'm kinda choked.

Not my truck but the exact same one by the looks.

With the truck stopped I switch into 4 high try to go forward tires just spin. I hit the brakes To stop the wheels from spinning and hear a strange noise from the front drive shaft. Back up a little ways hit the brakes and hear this strange noise again. Thinking it was normal because the truck has never really been in 4 wheel drive so I didn't know the difference. I hit the gas, before the truck moved forward there was a loud ting sound followed by a clunking. The drive shaft spinning not connected to the front diff. Turns out it twisted in the middle of the drive shaft and broke in 2 pieces. So drive out in 2 wheel no problems. Take it to the dealership and they will not warrant due to "abuse". Has anyone else had this issue? Was it covered under warranty? I feel if I wasnt 24 it would have been covered no questions asked. How do I attach a picture?

did a reference to 3500 rpm disappear?

When 4x4 was first engaged the rpms where taken up to around 3500rpm with no movement. At which time I applied the breaks to stop the wheels and switch to reverse. The way I had it worded before I think Ratso thought I was trying to boost launch it which was not the case. So yes the reference did disapear.

Thanks for clarification.
At 3500 rpm with no movement, tires were spinning?
So at any time were you applying both throttle and brakes ?

You would think the front differential could handle the adverse weather conditions. I once had a buddies jeep and it was winter. Their was some ice and snow. I was pulling it into the garage from the outdoors. Revved it up and thought I would throw a little rooster tail? I hear a pop noise....snapped the front drive shaft?! My fault, but I thought chri**....it's a jeep -right! So.... obviously the tires grabbed something solid through all the snow and ice...... the rest is history. Sucks. Hope something positive comes out of this for you, especially since this is your first issue with the 4x4.

Yup the tires where spinning I could here them and see the front driver when I looked out the window. The throttle and brakes where never applied at the same time.

The tires never grabbed traction this I am sure off. No change in the tone of sound from the tires not finding traction on the snowy frozen ground or shudder as 1 bit in. The only thing I can come up with is the brakes being applied. Which where applied firmly but not so in a way to lock up the tires or engage abs.

I think I'm going to front the bill for this. Was considering upgrading the shaft but im sure this under built truck will just grenade a diff or peel a half shaft off.

So everyone here should take away something positive on this, treat your 4 wheel drive system like its made of glass..... Wait that's not positive. Well anyway thanks for your input everyone.

Got my driveshaft today, must be from a 2015 because it's all aluminum. Just think, all the money I save on fuel can go towards repairs now! Sure feels a lot heftier!!

I've had no problems with mine after 5 years! I've actually used my 4wd Offroad as many others have. Sucks but I'm sure there is more to the story as you just do t spin a driveshaft without something binding up. Most breaks like this are caused by it being dented which causes a weakened wall of driveshaft.
