WANTED 33: here in edmonton, alberta (canada's truck capital EH?), I tried on the ford site to change my configuration to the 3.31s. However, when I did that, it made me change from fx4 to xlt and 4x4 to 4x2. Here in edmonton, 4x2 is not an option. Therefore, am I stuck with 3.55s?

To all, what's funny is that everyone I talked to at the 5 or 6 dealerships I'm trying to do a deal with, based on my stated needs, they all recommended the 5.0... adamantly. However, when I talk to people that have the truck, all the customers recommend ecoboost. What gives lol. Ford here currently has employee pricing (14k off @ 3.49 for 60mths), and I found that the deliverery allowances are greater on the 5.0, compared to the EB. So I would be not only saving on the 1300.00 EB option, but also saving some on the delivery allowance. An EB drove by me today. I had the windows open, and I could barely hear it. I do like the sound of the 5.0. At the end of the day, for my use, it looks like it will be the v8... and it comes down to the cost difference. When I trade up in a couple of years when the 2015s are selling, maybe then I will try the EB. Thoughts?? Thanks again everyone!
I am in Edmonton too. I went with the 5.0. in '11 there were all new motors for the F150's. I didnt need the heavy towing capacity of the EB (I tow a 30 camper trailer 6000lbs no problem). My major reasoning was at that time was that the 5.0 had been around for a long time with excellent track record. The EB was a brand new engine. I figured 1st year out - there is bound to be some "bugs" which there have been. Best price I found was at a dealer north of the city but to be honest I would not go back there for repairs. (I've had several issues with that store that I took another dealer to re-do what the first one did to get it fixed right)
What body are you looking at? When I bought my Screw, the dealerships were pushing 30% off MSRP on the Super Cabs.

Dont get stuck in the paralysis by analysis loop. You're splitting hairs over what isn't really important by what you describe are your needs. Either truck will be more than enough for your requirements and if towing needs comes later either one will do just fine.

The 5.0 hasn't been out as long as the EB FYI..EB has been around since 09 in the flex and Taurus and the 5.0 was only introduced in 11.

As a little more advice I own the 5.0 fx4 2012 I love it. I have a single in duel out flow-master and get complements all the time on the sound. I don't tow much but when I do it does a great job. The plus the EB has over the 5.0 I like are the fuel mileage is way better and there is a lot more power. I have driven both my sales man let me drive his EB one day. The different in the price of the engine is 750 dollars According to the salesman I use. I get 13.8 avg city and it usually jumps up to about 19 or 20 highway. But I am totally happy with my 5.0 and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Nothing beats the 5.0 good old SIMPLE V-8. The Ecoboost principle isn't new to Ford as the previous post stated. But then again Ford had the Ford Pinto out for 9 years from 1971 to 1980 before they finally gave it up..........BOOM.........and at the time Ford thought that was a great idea too.

Phyer Phyter... I'm going with the S/crew, fyi. All directions point me towards 5.0 so far... Also, I doubt, unfortunately, that I will be getting 30% off sticker
Trigger... you hit the nail on the head, as I was thinking flowmasters. I have them on my first ever car (mustang GT V8 '98), and to this day, I don't know many exhausts that sound better than the mustang small blocks with the flowmasters. I'm guessing there are many different flowmaster lines. I would just be looking at mufflers... just for the sound. Any recommendations? Thanks!
