Default New to me '98

Yea, I'm gett'n a '98 F-150. I've not a big fan of the "Space Shuttle" nose they put on them, but, hey, for what I'm getting it for, and there is someting about the burgundy color that I can live with it. 4wd this time to, my first ever! I don't know if it's electric, or vacuum lockers yet. Anywho, Do I have to roll it forwards or back like 50 feet after flipping the switch on the dash to make it engage /disengage? (no owner's manual) Or should they just kick in on that year's model?
Also... That engine is set way deep into the firewall. How the H#!! do I get to parts on the back of that thing, (especialy the back two spark plugs) Do I go at it from underneath?
Thanks!

I had a 98 with the 4.6. I was a pain to get to the last two plugs. I have an 02 supercrew now with the 5.4. Enjoy the truck.

I ended up taken it to a shop to get out the last plug. I didn't have a tool to allow me to get in there

Can anyone shed any further light on this for me please?
