Default NEW F150 COLOR RECOMMENDATIONS, etc

Hey everyone, getting real close to pulling the trigger on a '13 FX4 s/crew short box 402a no appearance pkg.

My first question is colour. First choice is tuxedo, second is sterling, third is oxford.

IMO, pros/cons to each:
Tux black: looks great when clean, but swirl marks and scratches show a lot.
Sterling gry: I think it's a safe colour, but imo looks better with appearance pkg. Also, in certain lighting, especially dark or cloudy days, the grey looks faded or dull to me. Is it just me?
Ox white: i think white is the easiest to keep clean, but it makes the truck look bigger than it is and somewhat flashier.

At this point, i do like the appearance package, but can't afford it. Plus, i think it will make the truck look dated much sooner than an FX4 without appearance package. I think the FX4 is a sick looking truck, and I know i won't go wrong with any of these colours. Please comment.

Second question:
Do I need undercoating/rustproof and all that "new car" stuff? Many detailers in my city advertise these packages. If i do this, i will be getting it done at one of these detailers, as opposed to the dealerhip obv... unless i wanna pay double. I always keep my vehicles clean and detailed regularly. Should I just save the money and get a sealant treatment when new, or something like that?

Thank you everyone

I personally like white. Plus if you have to repaint anything, white is less expensive.

I like the white personally had grey trucks before this one but I saw the white and fell in love. Also I didn't get it and mine is fine so far I would save your money.

As a wise man once said, "black is not a color, it's a lifestyle choice". They are most beautiful when they are clean for the 10 - 15 minutes after you wash them.

Personally, I like the white or silver on the FX trucks. Both have a great contrast with the smoked head/tail lights, along with the black interior.

Love my Tux Black! It is not any harder to keep looking nice than any other color for me. I would spend just as much time obsessing over a white one as I do mine. I say get what you like and just take good care of it. Mine is over a year old now with no swirls or scratches! Knock on wood

I've always thought gray was the easiest to keep clean. They don't show the darker colored dirt as much as white and don't show the lighter colored dirt as much as black. My '02 GMC Z71 is two-toned, charcoal gray with black strip on the bottom, and the gray section always looked cleaner than the black even though it was just as filthy. I would have a sterling gray fx4 right now if I hadn't seen the new blue jean metallic color on the lot. I just had to have that blue so I dropped down to a loaded XLT 4x4. Really, I think you need to make this decision on your own. I think you made the right decision with the 5.0 and the 3.55 rear end will more than serve your needs. I just think you should listen to your gut feeling when it comes to color. Now I think the underbody protection would help out with corrosion from salt on the roads during the winter. But as I stated in your other thread, I don't know much about driving in snow. Do they still use salt on the roads or is it some other synthetic compound?

I've always liked white on most vehicles. This is my third white vehicle.

It's also cooler here in Arizona on those 100+ summer days. My color preference when buying this truck was:

1) White
2) Silver
3) Everything else

1. Color:take a look at a Green Gem Metallic truck. Looks black in many light condtions.

2. Rust Proofing. I went with Rust Check this time. It's an annual respray.

Love my Tux Black when it's clean... Usually it's not .

My first choice was the Sterling Gray, then Silver, then Tux Black. I got the black because the dealership had the truck with the options/configuration I wanted in that color, and I didn't feel like having them try to find it in a different color and have it brought to the dealership. My last vehicle (2010 Taurus SHO) was also Tux Black, and still looked fantastic with 3 years/40K miles on it.

poskwally... i think it's a synthetic compound. And just to throw a curve at u, i recently decided that imma probably shell out the extra for the appearance pkg. With this pckg, tux black is the only colour for me. And yes, definitely the 5.0/3.55 set up
