Hey guys. This is a pretty newbie question but I just bought a 2013 STX with the 5.0L V8. I want to do some work to my exhaust and get a beefier sound but honestly I don't know where to start. I've spent the last five horrible years driving a Kia Spectra and now that I've upgraded to a mans vehicle I need it to sound like one.

I'm thinking of going with the Flowmaster Super 10 SI/DO. I was going to order it today but I'm not sure which size inlet to get or does it matter? I know you can get the 3 in. or the 2.5 in but I'm not sure which to get. Any help here?

And I'd also like any other suggestions you might have concerning performance upgrades, the exhaust, or whatever.

Before you start make sure whatever you do it won't void your warranty in any way. Flow Master makes a great product with 2 and 3 chamber mufflers but I would use caution on using the 2 chamber. You will hear the sound resonate in the cab big time, but then maybe that's what you want. Your stock exhaust pipe is 2.5" at the collector but you can use a 3" muffler, however it's a waste unless you run all the way to the back with 3" pipe. MagnaFlow has a complete 3"kit starting at the CAT and runs all the way back for about $800 +

Just get a 3" in/out muffler of your choice and run the exit to your liking (stock, turndown, tips, etc) You won't see any noticeable gains from a catback on an otherwise stock truck so don't waste your money IMO.

Straight pipe duel with duel exhaust out the back or at 45 degee angles with like 4 inch tips.

Don't do it. The 5.0 stock sound is just fine, IMO. I made the mistake of going cat-back with a Dakota 4.7L I had several years ago - I loved the sound at first, but then it became very, very annoying. I'd recommend leaving it alone.

I wanted some sound, but not enough to get a ticket. (In Louisiana modified exhausts are illegal) so I just got a muffler shop to cutout my stock muffler and replace it with a Flowmaster Super 40 series and put a chrome 12x3 tip on and it made a world of difference and doesn't have the obnoxiousness of straights. I love it.
Edit: Also ran me $145 including tip out the door.

Modified exhausts illegal? I didn't realize a state could do that.... Are you sure they just cannot be over a certain decibel level perhaps?

Personally if I coming from a KIA to driving a shiny new $25K-$30k truck with a 5.0, I'd leave it stock---put the $ into something practical.

Owing an older truck and modifying is another story altogether. Cost benefit analysis. We all know the variable costs of mods, but the fixed cost of a used truck is much less than the cost of a new truck and modding.

I modded my 2013 STX 5.0 exhaust very early on. It was my first all new vehicle and plan to keep for a while so figured I would put on early to enjoy it longer. I left the factory resonator in and replaced the factory muffler with a single in/dual out 40 series flowmaster. Single 3 in and dual 2.5 out and had a local shop install and run dual tips out the back and put on a set of chrome tips. No drone in the cab and not too loud at idle but roars at WOT.

atleast where i live i havent heard of anyone getting a modified exhaust ticket. It's really one of those laws that really isnt enforced unless the cop wants to be a dick
