Trying to get the right f150.??
I'm up for a new f150 I want the STX Supercab with the 5.0. But can't find it with 3.73 gears I want. The dealers tell me I have to another model to get one any thoughts?
Also can I swap the gears without major electircal computer problems as told by the dealer?

To the best of my knowledge, there are no major headaches with the electrical or computer systems when you swap gearing on the rear (and front if 4x4) end. The biggest issue is cost. I looked in to getting 3.73 limited slip, and I was quoted about $1000 per axle.

Welcome to the forum. You may want to look for an XLT with the 3.73's. With the cost of regearing, it may be the cheaper route. Plus, Ford may give you some grief if you ever need warranty work.

Thank you for your thoughts. How do you like your STX and I guess you got the 3..55. How's your towing issues and what tire size are you using?

Going to the XLT might be my only choice. Thanks

I'm loving the STX . There's a few options on the XLTs that would have been nice to have, but the ones I really want (Keypad, remote start, dimming rear mirror) can be added easily enough. I went with the STX because I got a hell of a deal on it, and it had the vinyl flooring, which is awesome for the nasty Iowa winters .

As for towing, I don't do a whole lot. I had a u-haul trailer behind it that was about 4000LBs loaded, and the truck didn't even feel it. For tires, I'm running the stock 275/65/18s, but I'm thinking about stepping up to a 33" or 34" tire when I can afford them and a leveling kit.

Sounds like just what I want to do. The STX is such a good buy right now. I just wish I could find one with the 3.73 gears. I think I might want them when I step up the tire size. Thanks for your note.
