First time buying new vehicle. Advice on getting a new 3.5 EB
Hello there, correct me if this is the wrong forum for this question.
I have never bought a new vehicle before, I've had the same '97 Ranger since I started driving in '04.
I've been looking into EB F150s and have decided that is the truck for me, 2013 XLT level or above but my budget will keep me at ~$550/month or less (for truck + insurance, which is likely to be at least $150/month for full coverage). I have a medium credit score and live in central Texas.
What are the best materials/advice to prepare me to start shopping for a new truck and get a good deal? I have a fear of walking on to a car lot and getting swindled or not getting taken seriously due to a low budget.

If I were you I would shop the internet department whichever dealers you choose. I did at Covert Ford in Austin and there was no haggling. In and out of there in less than a hour. That's the best way I've found to buy. Research it and figure the best way for you. Good luck with your purchase!

Thanks. I looked online at dealers in san antonio and Austin. How much more/less is your total cost/balance against what you saw online? I assume there are a bunch of extra fees on top of what I am seeing on the ford sites.

I hate to rain on your parade brother but that leaves you with $400.00 a month truck note. 60 months at 0% interest is $24,000 . 72 months is $28,000 and that's at 0% interest. Good luck to you.

I've been buying my F150's from Chaparral In Devine since 1986. They usually will sell me a truck at 300 over invoice. Normally, I don't ever see the truck before I buy it- I do the deal over the phone. The truck is ready as well as the paperwork when I get there. I've swapped trucks and drove out in my new one in about 20 minutes. But I generally will stay and chat with the sales manager- ask for Sonny Dunsford. His brother owns the place. They don't sell many cars but they usually have a hundred or so F150's for you to look at. Take IH35 south out of San Antonio, take the Moore exit and it's on the left- you can't miss it. If you have a clue what you want, call Sonny and see what he has. They have a website with inventory.

Wow, how does anyone ever afford one of these things. I suppose most people are not engaged and saving 1/3 of their income . Welp, I suppose we'll have to dip into savings a bit...

Why don't you go on the Ford web site, under the "build your own" section, you can pick any model you like & configure it the way you want. The price you get is MSRP. Now, you can go to the dealer "armed" with some knowledge about what you want.
Go for it! life is short.

Keep an eye out for new trucks on the lot with some mileage. Dealers occasionally drive these things for demos and personal use and rack up 5-10k miles, so it gives you more haggle room and you still get the rebates of "new" truck. Good luck
